The practical way into Katiyari is rail to Satraon, then a short road hop into the village. Barhaj remains the tehsil town for buses, markets, and onward taxis.
Nearest rail: Satraon (STZ)
Satraon sits on the Salempur–Barhaj branch of North Eastern Railway, between Deoraha Baba Road (DRBR) and Sisai Gulabrai Halt (SSGR). It is a small halt — often marked non-reporting on live-status apps — so the train may not show a GPS ping even when it stops.
Useful junctions on the same line:
| Station | Code | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Satraon | STZ | Nearest halt to Katiyari |
| Barhaj Bazar | BHJ | Tehsil town; about 9 km of rail from Satraon toward Barhaj |
| Salempur Jn | SRU | Change for many Deoria / Bhatni / Gorakhpur side trains |
| Bhatni Jn | BTT | Broader connections on the main NER network |
From Satraon, local autos, shared jeeps, or a pre-arranged vehicle cover the last stretch to the village. Ask at the halt; there is no large station taxi rank.
Road
- Barhaj — about 10 km; the usual road and market town.
- Deoria — about 30 km; district headquarters, more frequent buses.
- State and private buses ply Deoria–Barhaj. From Barhaj, shared vehicles and autos run toward village roads. In the monsoon, riverine flooding can slow or cut some approaches.
Air
The nearest airport in regular use is Gorakhpur (GOP). From there the rest of the journey is by train (via Bhatni / Salempur) or by road through Deoria toward Barhaj.
Other
There is no scheduled inland-water passenger service for visitors. The Sarayu and Rapti shape the land; they are not a tourist ferry.
Timetables below are scheduled calls, not a live running board. Always re-check on the day of travel.
