This is a rough calendar for the eastern plain. Katiyari sits near the Sarayu: low fields stay wet. Sowing dates follow your plot and that year’s flood, not an app.
Kharif (June–November)
- Paddy nurseries are usually in June; transplant once the monsoon has settled.
- In a flood year, do not rush transplanting on low land. Wait until water recedes and the soil firms.
- Do not keep flood-soaked seed for the next crop.
- Maize and pigeon pea belong on higher ground; waterlogged bunds carry more risk.
Rabi (November–April)
- Wheat is typically sown in November–December and harvested around March–April.
- If kharif runs late, ask the block agriculture officer about variety and timing.
- Mustard and lentil often share the same window; judge soil moisture in the field.
Flood years
On the Sarayu belt some years leave fields wet for weeks. Do not take expensive seed on credit in a hurry. Drain, then test the soil, then sow. Crop insurance or relief news should come from official notices, not WhatsApp forwards.
